ON MEDIEVAL SIEGES AND ECOSYSTEMS
                                                                                                                                   IN A MEDIEVAL SIEGE, the population within a city was protected by walls, towers, and secured entrances. The enemy outside had control of the countryside.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  STOREROOMS held a food supply to feed the city's inhabitants, which would only last for a limited time.                                                                                                                                                                                                       ULTIMATELY, a city must obtain food from the countryside around it, or starve.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                AN ECOSYSTEM depends upon energy from outside itself.                                                                                                                                                                    NASA has developed a functional ecosystem sealed in glass, which must be placed in sufficient sunlight to survive.                                                                                                                                                                                               THE CRIMINALS in The City of New York, and surrounding cities and towns, depend upon dense concentration in large numbers, so as to cooperate together to obtain resources for themselves, using illegal methods learned from each other to do so. They are raised to be that way. It is not accidental that they are occupying an area of exceptional wealth for large numbers of inhabitants.                                                                                                                                                                     ULTIMATELY, the prosperity of this area, meaning the prosperity of cities and towns occupied by the criminals, depends upon tourism and investment from outside this region.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                NOTE that this area has an internal "stockpile" of economic resources, just as medieval cities had storerooms filled with food.
