Piaget's Stages and Man's Evolution of Mind as Collective Growth
THE PARALLEL between learning in individuals as depending upon the completion of successive stages, and Evolution of Mind in Mankind as consisting of mental speciations which also occur due to the completion of successive stages, is not coincidental. THE HUMAN RACE through time consists of all individuals in it, and THE GROWTH OF THE RACE is based upon THE GROWTH OF INDIVIDUALS. MENTAL SPECIATIONS in HOMO SAPIENS SAPIENS are based upon the stages of mental growth achieved by all individual members of the biological species, progressing through time in countless individual lives. EVOLUTION OF SPECIES OF MIND IN MAN IS COLLECTIVE MENTAL ADVANCEMENT, OCCURRING IN STAGES OF COLLECTIVE LEARNING OVER TIME. NOT ALL INDIVIDUALS ARE AT THE SAME STAGE OF LEARNING, OR LEVEL WITHIN A STAGE, AT ANY POINT IN TIME. PERCENTAGES OF INDIVIDUALS ACHIEVING A GIVEN STAGE, INCREASE OVER TIME, UNTIL ALL, OR NEARLY ALL OF THE HUMAN RACE HAS ACHIEVED THAT STAGE. INDIVIDUAL MIND, AND COLLECTIVE MIND, BOTH ADVANCE IN STAGES, DEPENDING UPON EACH OTHER FOR SUCH GROWTH: COLLECTIVE MIND PROVIDES THE ENVIRONMENTS NECESSARY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF INDIVIDUAL MIND, WHILE CONSISTING OF ALL INDIVIDUAL MINDS AT ANY POINT IN TIME. I have noted elsewhere, that physical and mental development in individual humans, repeats in microcosm the evolution of humans as a species. Jean Piaget discovered stages of mental development in children, which are in fact based upon the acquisition, over enormous lengths of time, of mental capacities by the entire Human Race. Such development exhibits stages of increasing complexity of organization, both in individuals, and in the human species as a whole. Note that biological development in humans begins with single fertilized egg cells, just as biological life as a whole developed from unicellular organisms in Earth's primitive oceans (which also explains why the human body is 97% water). The factor of increasing complexity of organization, based upon stages of development, is present in all of the above examples.
